The NCAA has denied Brendan Sorsby’s request for reinstatement for eligibility for the 2026 college football season after he was suspended for making sports bets, reportedly also on one of the games he played in, which breaks a major rule.
Sorsby was among the most hyped-up players ahead of this year’s offseason, which is why Texas Tech announced that they will be appealing the NCAA’s ruling.
The Texas Tech school president, Lawrene Schovanec, released a letter saying they have given the facts and context of Sorsby’s case and are hoping for a reversal of modification in the ruling.
In his affidavit while seeking eligibility from the NCAA, Sorsby admitted to suffering from a diagnosed gambling disorder.
“Court will never rule in his favor, government profits way too much on sports gambling industry and he messed with its credibility. Even if he had a reasonable case, hard to imagine he would win under those circumstances.” One fan reacted.
“Sorsby won’t win. There’s much more on the line than just his career. If he’s able to play, it sends a clear message that players can gamble on their own teams, and that’s very bad news for the sportsbooks. If the public loses confidence, that hurts the bottom line.” Another fan wrote.
“If gambling on games you’re being paid to play in doesn’t get you banned, just throw the rule book out … it has no meaning.” Another fan commented.
“The Brendan Sorsby situation is a bad one for everybody involved, but I’m happy that, in a time where nothing seems black and white with the rules, the NCAA recognized how straightforward this case was.” another fan said.
“Yeah he’ll never play college football again. He’ll be on an NFL team in a month lol. Hate all u want.” Another fan predicted.
“yeah he’s cooked, don’t really seeing the NFL messing with him bc he’s just not good enough for the off the field issues.” Another fan added.

I am deeply sorry to everyone l’ve disappointed and am committed to the hard and necessary work ahead.” Sorsby wrote.
