“Bad Look”: Steve Sarkisian’s Texas Tech Remark Draws Criticism From Veteran Reporter

Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian brewed up a new controversy with his comment on the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Since then, he has faced a lot of backlash, and recently, a veteran reporter added his two cents to it.

Going undefeated in a season is something every coach desires for their team. It’s not an easy feat to pull off, considering the high-level competition in some conferences, and Sarkisian had given up on that dream earlier.

A few months ago, Sarkisian had said that undefeated teams were a thing of the past. Then the Indiana Hoosiers went on an undefeated run last season, finishing with a perfect 16-0 record and the national title.

Despite giving up on that dream, Sarkisian recently stirred up the pot by taking shots at the Red Raiders. He didn’t take any names, but his comment points to only one team, and that’s Texas Tech.

“There’s a team in our state that plays in another conference that has a schedule that I would argue if I played with our twos and our threes,” he said. “We could go undefeated, and they’ll probably make the College Football Playoff this year.”

Now, is that a legitimate claim to make, or was it even necessary? We can’t say that. However, Sarkisian feels like the other teams have it easier compared to the Longhorns.

“Taking a shot at another state school, one that your administration will not play unless it’s the postseason, is a bad look,” veteran reporter Brian Davis wrote on X.

Sarkisian’s comment has started a fan war on social media. The Red Raiders fans believe that it’s a cowardly move when they won’t even schedule a game, and the Longhorns fans believe their team would dominate if the two teams shared a field.

Cody Campbell Called Out Steve Sarkisian

We might end up seeing Texas and Texas Tech battle it out in the regular season. Sarkisian sparked the heated discussion, and Cody Campbell, Chairman of the Board of Regents of the Texas Tech University System, is looking for all the smoke.

On3 posted a graphic with Sarkisian’s subliminal jab at Texas Tech on X. Campbell commented on that post and called out Sarkisian and the Longhorns.

“Schedule us then!  We’ve been talking about it for years, and we are more than willing!!” he wrote.

Campbell also tagged Sarkisian and Chris Del Conte, ensuring that the callout doesn’t go unnoticed.
