Nolan Smith Jr. Arrest: Details on Eagles LB’s Reckless Driving Case

Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Nolan Smith Jr. was arrested on Friday. He was accused of speeding and reckless driving and taken into custody on May 15. Smith Jr. has previously been arrested for traffic violations as well.

The news about Smith Jr.’s arrest went public yesterday. Since then, a lot of new information has surfaced in the media and on the internet. ESPN’s Adam Schefter recently posted new details about the case.

As per reports, Smith was going at 135 mph in a 70 mph zone at 10:41 in the evening.

“Smith made bond and was released shortly after the arrest, the sheriff’s office said, adding that a future court date for Smith has been issued,” ESPN reported.

Smith was the first round, 30th overall pick by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2023 NFL Draft. He was part of the Super Bowl-winning Philly squad. Before the Eagles, he played college football for the Georgia Bulldogs.

During his time with the Bulldogs, Smith was arrested for multiple traffic violations. In 2022, he was charged with speeding in a construction zone and driving on a suspended license. The Philadelphia Eagles star was arrested outside of Athens.

According to Weiszer, Smith was charged with speeding in a construction zone and driving on a suspended license. He was reportedly going 89 miles per hour, 44 miles per hour over the limit, while traveling through Barrow County on his way home from the airport in Atlanta,” On3’s Jonathan Wagner reported.

Both of his charges were misdemeanors, and he was released shortly after being brought in.

The Eagles are getting ready for their voluntary minicamp on Tuesday. The franchise has not issued a statement on Smith’s arrest.

Eagles Legend Heaped Praise on Nick Sirianni

Nick Sirianni joined the Philadelphia Eagles as their head coach in 2021. Before the Philly job, Sirianni had held position coaching duties for several franchises, but he had no experience as a head coach.

When Sirianni came in, he had a lot of pressure on him. Philly legend Rodney McLeod said last week that he always saw championship potential in Sirianni.

“I thought Nick (Sirianni) would be a champion. He possessed the traits that a leader needs in order for guys to follow. I could quickly tell his principles and values that he instilled in us equated to championships,” he said.

After the first year’s struggle when his team finished 9-8, the Eagles kept getting better each season and won the Super Bowl in 2025.
