LSU Tigers guard MiLaysia Fulwiley knows how intense and tough it is to play in her current conference, as she said during a courtside interview after her team’s most recent regular-season game. On Thursday, Feb. 19, Fulwiley and the rest of coach Kim Mulkey‘s Tigers faced coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin’s Ole Miss Rebels on the latter’s home court, The Sandy and John Black Pavilion at Ole Miss in Oxford, Mississippi.
During her post-game interview, as seen in a video posted by @SportsCenter on X/Twitter, Fulwiley was asked about the pace that LSU maintained throughout the game, even with the Rebels going on a run in the latter minutes. Fulwiley spoke highly of the unity among her teammates, which is necessary to compete in conference play, as she deemed the SEC “tough.”
“ I mean, we play in the SEC. It’s tough, man. No team is gonna let us come on their court and beat them anyway. So, we just understand that in critical moments like tonight, we can’t give up. We just gotta keep going and don’t give in and just stay together. I mean to, I keep saying together, but I promise like that’s what really sets us apart from each other team in this tough league, the SEC,” Fulwiley explained.
Fulwiley and the Tigers defeat the Rebels in front of a hostile Ole Miss crowd by 8 points, 78-70. LSU now holds an overall record of 23-4 (9-4 SEC), and is sitting as the fourth seed in the SEC standings. Fulwiley scored a career-high 26 points on 10-of-18 shooting, to go along with seven rebounds, two assists, three steals, and two blocks off the bench.
