MiLaysia Fulwiley left the South Carolina Gamecocks to join the LSU Tigers before the 2025-26 college basketball season. On Monday, she played against her former team but came out on the losing end.
LSU’s women’s basketball team suffered a 79-72 loss to No. 3 South Carolina. It was LSU’s 18th straight loss against South Carolina. Fulwiley was poor in the game, finishing with 6 points on 1-for-8 shooting. She also committed three turnovers in 23 minutes.
After the loss, Fulwiley’s mother, Phelliccia “Phea” Mixon, made some fuming reactions against South Carolina fans. She reshared a post that said:
“did you get paid after gossiping about me or u still broke.”
In another post she reshared, it read:
“Everyday I wake up I be so thankful Im not one of you b**ch a** ni**as!!”
Phelliccia Mixon helped raise Fulwiley in Columbia, South Carolina. The Tigers player is extremely playful about the role and sacrifices Phellccia made in her life that has helped her basketball career.
“My mom definitely was my hero, and I just wanted to show how much I appreciated her waking up early for my games,” Fulwiley said on Gamecocks online in April. “She went as far as to quit her night job so she could be able to go my games… Just seeing her work hard and make sure we got what we wanted by any means necessary just made me want to do it for her.”
LSU’s Kim Mulkey Addresses MiLaysia Fulwiley’s Outing Vs South Carolina
Before transferring to LSU, MiLaysia Fulwiley played two seasons with the Gamecocks, where she became a national champion, SEC Sixth Player of the Year and SEC Tournament MVP.
Monday was the first time she faced her former program after transferring. Emotions were surely high, but LSU Tigers head coach Kim Mulkey revealed how she calmed her nerves down before the game.
“I didn’t just sit with her and have a one-on-one conversation. I think I just coached her in front of her teammates. And I hope she has butterflies, because if she has butterflies, it means she’s invested in this program, and she’s excited,” Mulkey said.
The Tigers head coach also assessed her outing against Dawn Staley’s Gamecocks.
“Don’t try to do too much. Just play. I thought she did typical Fulwiley. Give you some outstanding plays, stripped Raven [Johnson] early in the game. Got some layups, but then she turned it over,” Mulkey continued. “And that’s part of who she is. We’ve got to continue to make positives, be pluses, when she’s in the ballgame and not minuses, because she has tremendous quickness. She has just things that she does naturally.”
It remains to be seen if Fulwiley can return to her dominant self after the loss against South Carolina.
