MiLaysia Fulwiley’s future with the LSU Tigers has drawn uncertainty after head coach Kim Mulkey’s latest remarks in favor of Hannah Hines. The No. 6 LSU Tigers lost against the No. 3 South Carolina Gamecocks.
The game saw Hines receiving only six minutes of gametime but those minutes were enough to convince Mulkey that she deserves more playing time while coming from the bench.
“I saw a kid I need to play more,” Mulkey said. “She needs to take some minutes from others. She guarded Tessa, wasn’t afraid to get up on her, made shots, and played with energy and effort. She has my respect.”
Fans assumed those additional minutes would come at the cost of Fulwiley’s playing time. Fulwiley played 24 minutes against her former team, but could only come up with six points, four rebounds and three assists. She was terrible from the floor, converting only one of eight field goals attempted, while committing three turnovers.
“Milaysia’s minutes are about to go to Bella. Watch 👀” one fan commented.
“Milaysia needs to transfer out of the SEC somewhere that would allow her to start and give her a fresh start…. Leaving SC, competing against them and watching them win another SEC championship has to be painful,” another commented.
“Transferring to another school isn’t gonna “fix” her,” one fan wrote.
“And she will definitely transfer outta there at the end of the season,” one fan predicted.
“So what she makes great plays but still is a turnover machine sc doesn’t need and dosen’t miss her good luck never winning a national championship,” one fan reacted.
“As it should! Bella is too talented to be on the bench!” one fan added.
“I will not be surprised if this happens,” one fan said.
Kim Mulkey Shares Major Reason Behind Losing vs South Carolina
Kim Mulkey’s team did well on almost all factors of the game. They out-rebounded South Carolina, including 18 offensive rebounds, didn’t turn over much, but there was one area where they lacked massively. In her post-game comments, Mulkey highlighted the team’s struggle with free-throw shooting.
“We didn’t do what we were told for three days,” Mulkey said. “Other than free throws, I can’t be too critical. We didn’t turn it over much, we out-rebounded them, and we got to the foul line more. We were 2-for-12 from three and still had a chance to win. With 44 seconds left, we had the lead. Make one defensive stop and we’re celebrating.
“This game is tough. When you get that many rebounds, you think you’ll win, but that’s not the only thing that matters. Look at the stat sheet, it’s good. Why’d you lose? Look at the free throws.”
The LSU Tigers could only convert 14 of 23 free throws. Meanwhile, the Gamecocks made 15 of 17 free throws.
