“Can’t Cry, Got My Make Up on”: Azzi Fudd Gets Emotional Reading Her Old Letter Leading Upto WNBA Draft

UConn Huskies guard Azzi Fudd got all emotional as she read an old letter that she wrote almost a year ago while contemplating what would be the next step in her career.

On Monday, Fudd is one of the few players invited to this year’s WNBA Draft, as she is projected to be a top pick, expected to be selected in the early-to-mid first round of the draft.

In a video uploaded by @uconnwbb on Instagram, Fudd was handed a letter that she had written last year. It was a message from her past self to her future self. The video shows how emotional the Arlington, Virginia, native got as she couldn’t believe how fast time had moved since she wrote the letter. Trying her best not to tear up, Fudd felt grateful for the opportunity to be drafted into the WNBA.

“ From me to me. Oh, brother, I can’t cry. I got my makeup on. This is sweet. I’m not really sure what else to say. I cannot believe that I’m here right now, that I’m sitting at my table for the draft with all these other incredible draftees. I can’t believe this was in September. This feels like maybe a month ago, max, that I wrote this to myself. So time flies when you’re having fun. You’re doing what you love with the people that you love,” Fudd said. “And I’m just so grateful to be here right now and so excited.”

Fudd is coming off her stellar five-year collegiate hoops tenure with coach Geno Auriemma’s Connecticut-based program. Under the tutelage of Auriemma and the Huskies, Fudd was a part of the 2024-25 national title-winning squad. Unfortunately, for her last year, they could not reclaim the NCAA championship, as they were eliminated in the 2026 Final Four.

What Did Azzi Fudd Write To Herself In The Letter She Just Read From 2025

In the aforementioned post by the UConn Huskies social media team, posted on Instagram, Azzi Fudd’s letter was shared.

Fudd actually wrote the letter back in early September of last year, and told her future self that she is excited to read it and look back to see how proud she will be once that time comes, which has now come.

“Future Azzi, it’s 9/9/2025, and you’ve come such a long way these last four years. I’m so proud of that, but I’m even more excited to find out how proud I will be reading this and thinking back to how far I’ve come and grown in just the past year. I hope I never stop believing in myself and find my purpose,” Fudd wrote.
