There are only two Black head coaches in the league right now, and both are men. Tyler Marsh leads the Chicago Sky, and Sydney Johnson is the head coach for the Washington Mystics.

Paige Bueckers takes a stand for Black women in basketball
Bueckers talked about growing up around a lot of prominent Black women who helped her in her basketball career. She showed love for both her stepmom Mo Roberts and her AAU coach Tara Starks.
“I understand how amazing they are and how they should get the same equal opportunity, as a white woman, as a white man, to be an important piece of this league and [this league] was built on a lot of black women, so it’s definitely right for them to get the same equal opportunity as everybody else,” she said.
Bueckers has been flying high this season. She is averaging 20.7 points, 4.2 rebounds, 6.3 assists in 23 games. She currently leads the average for most offensive net points ahead of her teammate Azzi Fudd, Caitlin Clark, A’ja Wilson and more.
She is also set to be a WNBA All-Star starter again. After winning the Rookie of the Year last season, Bueckers has taken the Wings’ responsibility with great aplomb.
