Nadia Comaneci, Shaun White, and others react to Lindsey Vonn competing at 2026 Winter Olympics despite latest devastating crash

Lindsey Vonn’s relentless pursuit of Olympic glory has once again captured global attention. Despite suffering a frightening crash ahead of the 2026 Winter Olympics, the American ski legend remains determined to compete on the biggest stage. Her attitude has now earned praise from the sports world, including Nadia Comaneci, Shaun White, and more.

The road to the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics has been anything but smooth for Vonn. After coming out of retirement in a remarkable bid to return to competitive skiing, the 41-year-old recently endured another high-speed crash. She tore her ACL in the accident on Friday in a World Cup race in Switzerland after crashing on the nets and being airlifted from the finish arena.

The incident left everyone wondering about her status in the upcoming games. Just a few days after the crash, the American made it clear that quitting is not an option. While speaking to the media, she recently delivered a statement that perfectly reflected her mindset.

“I’m not letting this slip through my fingers. I’m going to do it and the story. So I’m not letting myself go down that path. I’m not crying. My head is high, I’m standing tall, and I’m going to do my best, and whatever the result is, that’s what it is. But I can never say I didn’t try,” said Lindsey Vonn.

Among those inspired by Vonn’s determination was legendary Romanian former gymnast Nadia Comaneci. She reshared Vonn’s video of confirming her presence at the Winter Olympics on X and penned an impactful message that read:

    “Lindsey❤️Gladiator.”

Lindsey Vonn opened up about her life after retiring in 2019

Lindsey Vonn originally retired in 2019 after an extraordinary career that included an Olympic gold medal, three Olympic medals overall, and a record 82 World Cup victories. Years of injuries had taken a heavy toll on her, and stepping away seemed inevitable.

However, her love for the sport didn’t let her stay away for long. After almost a six-year-long hiatus, she returned to the slopes in November 2024. The American recently spoke to ESPN, where she opened up about the hopes she had for herself and eventually how things turned out for her.  (1:02 onwards)

“I had hoped for a lot of things after I had retired in 2019. I don’t think a lot of them actually came to fruition, unfortunately, but I learned a lot. It definitely was a process. I had to go to therapy and just figure out really who I was outside of skiing. And I realized that I’m not just a ski racer, I’m not someone that is defined by how many races I’ve won or lost. I’m a whole person,” said Lindsey Vonn.
    She added:
“I really want to get better at tennis. I mean, I just really been focused on it. I don’t know why. It’s a weird little quirk of mine, but also I started doing a little bit of rodeo roping, which is super random and odd, but I really enjoyed it. And I think horses and riding is it’s really interesting to me because it’s you’re combining nature and animals with, you know, speed and kind of power, and it’s this interesting mix of things together, and roping is an interesting challenge. I tried playing polo a little bit, but those ponies are, well, I don’t know if I could ever be good enough to ride one of those guys.”

Lindsey Vonn is now all geared up to make her appearance at the 2026 Winter Olympics, which is scheduled to take place from February 6 to 22.
