Nebraska Huskers’ Harper Murray recently experienced an unforgettable moment at the Kansas City Stadium, where she was the chosen one to bring out the official match ball for the FIFA World Cup clash between Colombia and Ghana. The Nebraskan senior later shared her excitement on Instagram over receiving the special honor.
Before the official kickoff, Harper Murray stepped onto the center stage as the Adidas Stadium captain, bringing the official match ball in front of a roaring soccer crowd with all smiles.
She celebrated this milestone on her social media. Murray shared pictures of herself standing on the field with the ball placed on the pedestal and wrote:
“what a night🏅@adidasus @adidasfootball.”
Fellow Husker Skyler Pierce also congratulated Murray by reacting to her post, writing, “Wow.”
Other fans flooded the comment section with all praise for the rising volleyball star.
Murray had signed a NIL deal with Adidas last year and became the third Husker to have bagged such a prestigious deal in history.
The clash between Colombia and Ghana was a highly anticipated round of 32 knockout match, where John Arias scored the only goal of the match last night and sent Ghana packing. With the final 1-0 score, Colombia has successfully secured its round of 16 spot and will take on Switzerland on July 8.
Harper Murray’s Successful Rise With Nebraska Volleyball
Harper Murray has been the most celebrated outside hitter for the Huskers volleyball team in recent years. She joined the Huskers in 2023 and received multiple accolades that year, most notably, being named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year.
Murray managed to build on that foundation as a sophomore in 2024 and recorded the most kills on her volleyball team and ultimately won the NCAA Lincoln Regional Most Outstanding Player honors during a deep postseason run.
Last year, coming in as a junior, Murray led the Huskers to a career-high 3.54 kills per set on a career-high .295 hitting percentage. All this prompted the coaches and other experts to vote her as one of the top players in the country during that season, which got her the AVCA All-America and All-Big Ten First Team honors for the third straight year.
It was also during her junior year that she signed a NIL deal with Adidas, which by then had elevated her profile to a great level.
This year, Harper Murray was part of the Huskers squad when they went undefeated throughout their spring exhibition season this April. Alongside preparing for the regular season, Huskers are also prepping to compete in the first-ever Big Ten Women’s Volleyball Tournament, scheduled to be held in November.
Murray also signed a NIL deal with Adidas last year, partnering with the global sports giant to promote their products through her name, image, and public appearances.
