NCAA wrestler AJ Ferrari was handcuffed earlier today in Douglas County, Nebraska, after authorities tracked him down for an outstanding warrant issued in Lancaster County for domestic assault and strangulation charges. The 24-year-old apparently was apprehended during a traffic stop.
According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, the Husker wrestler was wanted for multiple charges, which include the alleged third-degree domestic assault, which led to bodily injuries, strangulation of a pregnant woman, and first-degree false imprisonment.
The Special Operations Group of DCSO (Douglas County Sheriff’s Office) launched a surveillance operation after receiving a tip that Ferrari was at a place in Bennington. Detectives then spent the next day collecting data and analyzing tips regarding Ferrari’s whereabouts.
As per the surveillance, at around 10:45 AM, a woman was seen entering a truck parked on a driveway. Then a man, later identified as AJ Ferrari, was seen crawling out of the garage and entering the rear seat of the truck.
As the truck drove off, SOG investigators, along with DCSO’s Uniformed Services Bureau, pursued the truck in unmarked vehicles and were able to halt it at a traffic stop in the area of 204th Street and Grand Avenue. It was here that officers confronted Ferrari and eventually took him into custody without any resistance from the All-American wrestler.
Ferrari was booked into the Douglas County Corrections office and is expected to be taken back to Lancaster County, where the alleged offenses took place.
Details From AJ Ferrari’s Arrest Affidavit
According to the arrest affidavit, the mother of an unidentified woman frantically rang up the Lincoln police on May 8 after her daughter called her for help. Ferrari was accused of dragging the woman off her bed and strangling her.
Police then showed up at Ferrari’s Lincoln apartment and met the woman at the front door, who was visibly shaken by the incident. She also alleged that Ferrari tried to grab the phone away when she tried to get help. The woman then lost consciousness due to strangulation, but then managed to get back up and hide inside a closet, where she used another phone to ring her mother. Police then sent her to Bryan West, a local hospital, for treatment.
This helped police move forward with an official investigation. They eventually got a warrant and launched an operation, which ultimately resulted in Ferrari being taken into custody.
AJ Ferrari’s Past Encounters With the Law
Aj Ferrari has had multiple encounters with the law, going back to 2022, when the Nebraskan wrestler was arrested and charged with sexual battery. The charges were, however, dropped in Payne County District Court, after the attorney representing the alleged victim said that the victim was being subjected to online harassment.
Earlier this year, in January, Ferrari was booked for having an out-of-state outstanding warrant from Texas for evading arrest. The case, however, was dismissed without prejudice.
His run-in with the law intensified last June when Nebraska State Troopers arrested him after an 11-minute pursuit for speeding on Highway 30. He then tried to escape on foot but was eventually subdued. Ferrari got charged with flight to avoid arrest and reckless driving. He was then out on a $2,000 bond before his eventual arrest today.
