Is Josh Allen Playing in the Pro Bowl? Latest Update on Bills QB’s Status

Drake Maye of the New England Patriots, Justin Herbert of the Los Angeles Chargers, and the Buffalo Bills’ Josh Allen were on the AFC roster for the Pro Bowl Game at the time when it was first announced.

A lot has changed over the last few weeks. Maye is headed to the Super Bowl, so he’s not going to be a part of the Pro Bowl. Herbert suffered a fractured left hand toward the end of the season and had to undergo surgery for the same.

That rules Herbert out of the equation as well. So, what about Josh Allen? Will the Buffalo Bills quarterback play in the Pro Bowl? Unfortunately, the answer is no, and the reason is very similar to Herbert’s.

Allen had a broken right foot at the end of his season and was seen with crutches and wearing walking boots. He recently underwent surgery to address the issue, and he’s going to be out from the Pro Bowl as well.

Allen’s recovery timeline is expected to be around 8 to 10 weeks. While he’ll miss the Pro Bowl, Allen will get ample time in the offseason and when the team returns to practice. The injuries and Super Bowl commitment have created room for Shedeur Sanders.

Earlier this week, Sanders was announced as Maye’s replacement at the Pro Bowl, which marked his first Pro Bowl appearance in his rookie year.

“Thank you God. I’m beyond excited and extremely grateful for all the love and support from the coaches, players, and fans,” Sanders said in a statement. “This wouldn’t be possible without the support behind me. Still plenty of work to do.”

Several other stars, like Patrick Mahomes and Bo Nix, also suffered season-ending injuries, continuing the brutal cycle of players getting injured at the end of the season.

Josh Allen on Sean McDermott’s Firing

On January 27, the Buffalo Bills decided to part ways with former head coach Sean McDermott. He joined the team in 2017, and over the course of his tenure, he maintained a winning record. However, McDermott couldn’t take his team to a Super Bowl win.

After the season was over, when the Bills went to the Divisional Round and lost to the Broncos in a controversial end, McDermott was fired. While speaking to the reporters, Allen talked about how he reacted to the news.

“I’m sitting in my house, I wake up, I took a call from Mr. Pegula telling me what transpired,” Allen said. “I called coach McDermott immediately. I’ve got nothing but love and respect for coach McDermott. The last eight years of my life, he’s been through ups and downs of me as a player, as a person. He’s seen me grow up in a sense.”

Allen stated that he was very emotional when he heard the news and took some of the blame on himself.

“To know that we’ve had a lot of success here. I’d be lying to you if I’m sitting here saying that I feel like I had part in it. Because if I make one more play, that game in Denver, we’re probably not having this press conference right now, we’re probably not making a change,” he added.

The quarterback believes that if the Bills won the game against Denver, McDermott might have stayed in his position.
