“Wouldn’t Score In A World Cup Special Olympics”: Dave Portnoy Trolled By Fans As Barstool Founder Makes Bold Claim

Dave Portnoy has fully embraced FIFA World Cup fever, and one bold claim from the Barstool Sports founder quickly turned soccer fans against him.

Portnoy faced heavy trolling after posting on X:

“I feel like I could score a couple goals a game if you put me as the striker on a great World Cup team. All they do is feed their best player endlessly.”

The post drew criticism and jokes from fans who questioned whether the media personality understood the difficulty of competing in the FIFA World Cup.

One fan wrote: “You wouldn’t score in a World Cup Special Olympics.”

Another called it “probably one of the worst takes in the World Cup.”

“Nah. I’ve seen you run. I’ve also seen you take a shot at a Magic game. Not happening,” one user posted.

Another fan joked that Portnoy’s biggest challenge would be staying healthy long enough to get onto the field.

“I seen you run. You gonna injure your hamstring or get cramped up. One of the least athletic human beings I ever seen,” the user wrote.

“You have to be technical enough to score those two goals put away by Ronaldo,” another user wrote.

Portnoy Has Been Vocal About Changing Soccer

The viral post comes just days after Portnoy proposed several controversial changes to soccer while discussing the ongoing FIFA World Cup.

During an episode of Wake Up Barstool, Portnoy admitted he has become invested in the tournament and suggested ways the sport could be made more entertaining for American audiences.

“I am pro-soccer right now. I’m in World Cup fever. I’m watching all the games. I gave out my picks, 3-0 yesterday. I have a couple suggestions,” Portnoy said. “Make the nets about 100 times bigger. Have power plays. Have different things. I got a lot of things that I think soccer purists wouldn’t exactly love hearing me say.

“I don’t think once you get the ball past mid-court, or that center line, you can go backwards. Throw ’em out when you’re going backwards. You go forward and they kick it all the way backwards. It’s like backcourt, half-court violation, you lose the ball. So I have a couple viewing tips that I think could make this game a little more American. Maybe you get one full tackle per half where you can just tackle the guy. A couple things to make the viewing experience a little better, but I’ll get into that after the World Cup because I have World Cup fever,” he added.

Whether fans agreed with him or not, Portnoy once again succeeded in doing what he often does best: creating controversy.

As the World Cup continues, it appears most fans remain unconvinced that the Barstool founder would be able to play soccer as well as he appears to believe he can.
