Hunter Henry made his first playoff appearance with the New England Patriots this season. He signed with the Patriots in 2021 following a five year stilt with the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers, who drafted him in 2016.
The Patriots struggled for a few years after Henry joined. They didn’t make it to the playoffs from 2021 to 2025. While the team was rebuilding itself, Henry established himself as a reliable tight end and was rewarded for the same.
In March 2021, he signed a three-year $37.5 million deal with the franchise. He finished the 2021 season with 50 receptions for 603 receiving yards and nine receiving touchdowns. The following season, he recorded 41 catches for 509 yards and two touchdowns.
In 2023, the tight end made 42 receptions for 419 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns. The consistency in his performances every year helped Henry secure an extension deal with the New England Patriots.
In 2024, he signed a three-year, $27 million extension, which included a $7.5 million signing bonus and $15.8 million in guaranteed money. The $15.8 million was the total guaranteed money in his contract.
As per Spotrac, his average salary stands at a whopping $9 million per year. In 2025, he made over $6.6 million as base salary and $941,176 roster bonus. He was the 11th highest-paid player with the New England Patriots.
Henry has played 10 seasons in the league so far. In that time, he has made over $74 million from two different teams. The most amount of money he has made in a single year was in 2021, $17 million.
His current contract with the Patriots runs through 2026, and by the end of it, he will have made over $83 million in his career. It’ll be interesting to see if the Patriots offer him another extension or if he becomes a free agent at the end.
Hunter Henry’s College Career
After completing high school at Pulaski Academy, a private school, Henry became one of the top recruits in the country. Several programs showed interest in bringing him in, and he decided to take his talent to Arkansas.
Henry joined the Arkansas Razorbacks in 2013 and represented the program until 2015. Henry helped Arkansas win back-to-back bowl games, which was a record for the program.
He played 35 games with the Razorbacks. Henry finished with 116 receptions for 1661 yards and nine touchdowns. He was the second round, 35th overall pick by the Chargers.
