Patrick Mahomes Contract Reaction: What Are Fans Saying After $504.75M Deal?

In what’s already being touted as a historic deal, Kansas City Chiefs’ star quarterback Patrick Mahomes has officially become the first NFL player to have bagged a record half-billion-dollar contract.

According to NFL insiders Adam Schefter and Ian Rapoport, the Kansas-based franchise has added an extra two years to his pre-existing six-year contract, meaning the signal caller will now stay with the Chiefs up until the 2033 season, with a total contract value of $504.75 million.

When the news of Mahomes inking this massive contract extension came out this Wednesday, fan reactions have been pouring in nonstop. While some fans think the mammoth contract extension is well deserved on Mahomes’ part, a few also expressed their skepticism on X, writing:

    “At this point he’s not a player, he’s a long-term financial asset 😂”, said a fan.

“Well deserved. You can’t say he hasn’t earned it”, stated a fan.

“Why would they give Patrick Mahomes 2 more years when he’s rapidly declining in form and fitness”, remarked a fan.

“His contract is a steal tbh”, commented a fan.

“half a billion for Mahomes and it still feels cheap. Chiefs have just bought themselves the safest thing in sport”, wrote a fan.

“Extra two years for a regressing Mahomes?”, commented another fan.

He has the worst season of his career and they give him a raise @Chiefs are fu*****g morons“, remarked another fan.

“Half a Bil is nuts but so is he so 👏🏽”, stated another fan.

While on paper Mahomes is expected to rake in $504.75 million, Schefter and Rapoport further report how his total earnings could go up to $522.25 million through incentives and escalators, with the blockbuster deal averaging $64 million per year.

Andy Reid Breaks Silence On Patrick Mahomes’ Minicamp Absence

Months after sustaining a leg injury that ended his 2025 campaign, many expected Patrick Mahomes to make his return during the Chiefs’ mandatory minicamp.

However, the star quarterback was notably absent from the team’s conditioning run test, raising questions about the timeline for his comeback. Head coach Andy Reid addressed the situation and provided an important update on Mahomes’ recovery.

Speaking to Sports Illustrated on Thursday, Reid revealed that the Chiefs deliberately chose to hold Mahomes out of the test.

“No, we didn’t have him do the run test today,” Reid said. “But he probably could’ve done it and made it, I’m sure. But we’ll wait until he gets back here to do it”, Reid stated.

While the NFL world is still raving about Mahomes’ record contract extension with the Chiefs, he has yet to feature on the field ever since sustaining a severe ACL and LCL tear against the Los Angeles Chargers towards the tail end of the 2025 season.
