The belief in Arizona is that the Cardinals will move on from quarterback Kyler Murray one way or another this offseason. If the Cardinals do end up moving on from Murray, who they drafted in the first-round of the 2019 NFL Draft with the first overall pick, they may have their eye on his replacement.
Per NFL Draft analyst Tony Pauline, people that he’s spoken to around the league believe the Cardinals will strike a deal with free agent Malik Willis of the Green Bay Packers. He also doubled down on the belief that the Cardinals will indeed move on from Murray.
Willis, will likely secure a nice deal in free agency and walk from the Packers, who already have Jordan Love tied to one of the biggest contracts in the NFL. Willis saw limited time at quarterback the last two seasons, but made the most out of his opportunities.
Willis has gone 2-1 in three starts making seven appearances in the last two seasons. He’s thrown for 992 yards, six touchdowns, no interceptions, and has rushed for three touchdowns.
Top Free Agent QBs Heading Into Free Agency
It’s rare when a top quarterback in the NFL becomes a free agent. The most recent examples being Tom Brady and Peyton.
Heading into free agency, which begins in a month, this free agent QB class is highlighted by Aaron Rodgers, Daniel Jones, and Russell Wilson.
Rodgers and Wilson are former Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks but are well past their primes. Jones was having a resurgence season before tearing his Achilles midway through the season.
As mentioned above, Malik Willis is one of the more intriguing free agent quarterbacks this offseason, and might have the strongest market. Other notable free agent quarterbacks include Carson Wentz, Jimmy Garoppolo, Gardner Minshew, Trey Lance, Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Zach Wilson, and Tyrod Taylor.
