The Chicago Bears will host the Los Angeles Rams at Soldier Field today for the NFL Divisional Round matchup. It’ll be the second game on the Sunday slate and the last of the four divisional round games.
The Bears will enjoy home-field advantage once again. The home-field advantage played a big role in the last game against the Green Bay Packers in the NFL Wild Card Round.
After going 3-21 at halftime, the Bears pulled off a stunning comeback with the home crowd cheering for them. They won the game 31-27. The Bears will look to cause another upset at home and proceed to the Conference Championship game.
Today, they will have an added advantage over the Rams. The weather conditions at Soldier Field today are expected to be extremely cold. That’s the kind of weather that the Bears are used to, but the same can’t be said about the Rams.
As per AccuWeather, the temperature will remain below 20 degrees throughout the game. The brutally cold weather will have an impact on the game, but the Rams are going to suffer more from it than the home team.
It’s worth noting that the temperature slightly below 20 degrees is expected to feel like a lot less. The city will also experience cold winds, which will only make matters worse for the team not equipped for those conditions.
Wind is going to be around 20-30 MPH as Chicago will live up to its moniker. Tonight’s weather isn’t the only thing that the Rams would’ve been worried about in the lead-up to the game.
Matthew Stafford Struggles in These Weather Conditions
Matthew Stafford would be the Rams’ primary offensive weapon in the game. The outcome, as far as the Rams are concerned, would largely depend on how Stafford performs tonight.
However, there’s a major flaw in Stafford’s game when it comes to extreme weather conditions, and the same poor track record could follow him to Chicago tonight. Stafford has missed the mark several times in these games.
He holds a 1-9 record in these weather conditions, which is disappointing for a player of his stature. Although there’s no denying Stafford’s talent and ability to win games, he is yet to prove himself in games where the weather also has the potential to dictate the outcome.
There can’t be a better opportunity than the NFL Divisional Round matchup today for Stafford to prove that he can win games regardless of conditions.
