‘Let Grandpa Rest’: Fans React As $200M Worth Aaron Rodgers Makes Shocking Steelers Decision After Mike Tomlin’s Exit

The Steelers fans have had a rough week. Their head coach of nearly two decades, Mike Tomlin, resigned from his position, they were knocked out in humiliating fashion in the Wild Card Round against the Texans, and now there’s more bad news related to Aaron Rodgers.

Despite being in his 40s, Aaron Rodgers was the anchor of the Steelers’ offense and an overall veteran leader for the team. He helped them secure a spot in the playoffs, which is commendable.

Rodgers had signed a one-year deal with the Steelers last year. When the season got over, fans wondered if he’d come back for another season. As per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Rodgers will not return.

It’s worth noting that this doesn’t mean the $200 million worth veteran is retiring. He will not be with the Steelers. However, with Pittsburgh crossed out, it won’t be easy for the veteran quarterback to find another team.

Fans, on the other hand, have made their peace with never seeing Rodgers again with the Steelers.

“He’s gonna be 42 for god’s sake. Let grandpa rest,” a fan wrote.

“End of an era in Pittsburgh. Rodgers deserves a better send-off,” a fan wrote.

“Tough break for Rodgers and the Steelers. Time to hang ’em up?” a fan wrote.

“He not expected to return to the NFL at all,” a fan wrote.

“Steelers or not, that résumé is first-ballot. Nothing left to prove,” a fan wrote.

“Off to retirement,” a fan wrote.

Even if this was the last time we’d ever see Rodgers in the league, he’ll go out as one of the all-time greats. But it’s too early to count him out already. Rodgers knows that he still has some football left in him. If he gets another opportunity with a better team, he’d look to make another run at the title.

Mike Tomlin’s Wife on His Resignation

Tomlin leaving the Pittsburgh Steelers was one of the biggest shocks of the postseason. Although his team struggled in the playoffs, no one thought that Tomlin would leave on his own, without even mentioning it before the final announcement.

Once he made his decision public, Tomlin saw an overwhelming love and respect from the fans and his players. Even though he is yet to comment on anything, his wife, Kiya Tomlin, recently issued a statement.

“I am incredibly proud of what he has accomplished both on and off the field. Over the past days, the testimonies shared by his current and former players- the men who knew him best- have been deeply moving. They validate what I have always known about his mission, one that began long before the titles and headlines, when we first met in college,” she WROTE.

Kiya stated that Tomlin fulfilled his purpose of guiding and mentoring young players into becoming great individuals during his coaching tenure.
