Since the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, there have been several crossovers between NFL and soccer players, with multiple stars like Tom Brady, Marshawn Lynch, and Jayden Williams making appearances at live games. However, Texans legend J.J. Watt has made the news for his interactions with a fan instead.
A German superfan who goes by the handle @Freddy07 on X (formerly Twitter) has gone viral on his first trip to the United States. One of his online posts garnered Watt’s attention, with the NFL legend offering to help the soccer fan while in Houston.
Watt’s offer led to other businesses reaching out to Freddy. Speaking on the “Men In Blazers” podcast on Friday, Watt shared a story about one of the gifts that have come the fan’s way through him:
“A guy reached out as a restaurant reached out, and they were like, ‘We want to give Freddy a $24,000 shot of Glenlivet 80.’ And I was like, ‘I didn’t even know that existed.’ I’m dead serious. I brought it to him because I was like, ‘I don’t know if you can keep it and resell it to pay for your bags on the way home. I don’t know.'” (@48:01)
While the $24,000 shot eventually ended up getting rejected by the fan, the price tag certainly took Watt by surprise.
J.J. Watt Speaks On USMNT Head Coach Mauricio Pochettino
The USMNT has been off to a stellar start, winning both their matchups against Paraguay and Australia while also clinching a Round of 32 berth under head coach Mauricio Pochettino, who is coaching his first-ever FIFA World Cup.
Watt made sure to give the national team’s head coach his credit, while also poking fun at Pochettino’s outfits:
“I mean, clearly he’s figuring it out right now. Clearly, he’s got things rolling. He’s got a way to inspire the guys to get his tactics and his way in. I love the Russell Crowe comparison. I think that’s fantastic. His outfits, I understand, it’s like an Americanized thing.” (@31:00)
Watt’s involvement in soccer is not just emotional but also financial. The Texans legend became a part-owner of England’s second-division club Burnley FC alongside his wife, Kealia Watt, in 2023.
