VIDEO: UConn Stars Squeals in Excitement As Kyrie Irving Extends Support to Huskies After Win vs Notre Dame

Dallas Mavericks superstar Kyrie Irving was an unexpected individual to have extended his support to the UConn Huskies, who excitedly greeted him following their recent win.

On Sunday, March 29, coach Geno Auriemma’s Huskies squad defeated coach Niele Ivey’s Notre Dame Fighting Irish 70-52 in the Elite Eight of this year’s national tournament.

Playing at a neutral venue, Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas, the Huskies were able to hold off the Fighting Irish, who had huge momentum from their Sweet 16 victory. With the Connecticut-based program headed for another NCAA Final Four appearance and having eliminated Notre Dame in the process, Irving congratulated the team after the game that he attended.

This is seen in a video posted by @MarchMadnessWBB on X/Twitter, as Irving was captured dapping them up since the game was played near where his NBA franchise is based. He is seen congratulating the likes of associate head coach Chris Dailey, veteran KK Arnold, who tended to the excitement of freshmen Kelis Fisher and Blanca Quinonez. Nevertheless, Irving made sure to hug and dap up each one of them.

Irving is still nursing a torn ACL on his left knee that he suffered a year ago in March 2025. The 2016 NBA champion has missed the entirety of the 2025-26 season so far, and has publicly announced that he has no intentions of returning to action this season. Without him, coach Jason Kidd’s Dallas-based franchise has been eliminated from playoff contention with an overall record of 24-50.

For the Huskies, their undefeated run this season has led them to the Final Four, with an overall record of 38-0 (20-0 Big East).

Kyrie Irving’s Alma Mater Loses To UConn Huskies In The Men’s Tournament

It seems as though all is well between Kyrie Irving and the UConn Huskies women’s basketball squad despite his alma mater, the Duke Blue Devils, losing to the Huskies men’s team in their 2026 NCAA tournament.

On the same day, coach Jon Scheyer’s Blue Devils lost to coach Dan Hurley’s UConn squad, 73-72, in their Elite Eight matchup after a gut-wrenching, game-winning three-pointer by Huskies guard Braylon Mullins.
