Cori Close Loses Assistant Coach to Huskies After UCLA’s NCAA Championship Season

UCLA’s women’s basketball assistant coach, Tasha Brown, is leaving Cori Close’s UCLA Bruins and heading north up the West Coast to join Washington. Following the Los Angeles school’s national championship win last season, she earned a promotion to associate coach with the Huskies.

About the opportunity, she had the following to say via a statement:

“I am incredibly honored to join the University of Washington and reunite with Coach Langley,” said Brown. “Tina is one of the greatest teachers, leaders, and people in our profession. Her genuine care for people, commitment to excellence, and deep purpose in serving young women and those around her are inspiring. I am grateful for the opportunity to work alongside her again.

“It is rare to be called from one incredible place to another, and I leave UCLA with tremendous love and gratitude. Working alongside my friend and mentor, Coach Cori, our staff, and so many exceptional young women has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. My Bruin family will always hold a special place in my heart.

“I am excited for this new journey and grateful for the opportunity to join such an amazing university and program. I look forward to serving alongside a talented staff and investing in the lives of a special group of young women.”

With two decades of coaching experience, Tasha Brown has also coached at Rice, Cincinnati, Wisconsin, UC Santa Barbara, and Western Michigan. She joins Washington after eight years with UCLA. Throughout her career, she has made the postseason 10 times.

Coach Tina Langley also released her own statement, sharing her thoughts on the addition of the now former UCLA Bruins assistant coach. Here’s what she said:

“Tasha is an exceptional coach, mentor, and leader,” said Langley. “I’ve had the privilege of seeing her teach the game at an elite level firsthand, but it’s her commitment to growing young women that truly sets her apart. Her holistic approach to training the mind and body has helped countless players reach peak performance. Tasha has a passion for service and is driven by a relentless pursuit of excellence. She is one of the best in the country at developing the whole person, and I am so excited for our young women to learn from her.”

Washington finished last season with an overall record of 22-11 and a 10-8 Big Ten mark. The finished last in the AP Poll, claiming the 25th spot. The Huskies only made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, where they fell to No. 14 TCU.
