UConn Huskies’ Sarah Strong has bagged one of the most prestigious awards in college basketball, winning the women’s Wooden Award. She joined an elite company of players in doing so, such as Maya Moore, Paige Bueckers, and JuJu Watkins.
“UConn star Sarah Strong wins the Wooden Award, completing her national player of the year award sweep! She’s just the fourth underclassman to win the Wooden since it was established for women in 2004, joining Maya Moore (2009), Paige Bueckers (2021) and JuJu Watkins (2025),” a UConn insider reported.
There are not many college athletes who can say they had a better season than UConn Huskies’ Sarah Strong. Geno Auriemma’s UConn lost in the Final Four to Dawn Staley’s South Carolina. Obviously, winning the national championship unbeaten would have been the cherry on top. But even without that, Sarah’s season was, well, pretty strong.
She averaged 18.4 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 3.8 assists in 38 games. She played a second fiddle to redshirt senior Azzi Fudd and led the team to an unbeaten streak of 37 games. After helping UConn win the national championship in her freshman year, she certainly took her game up a notch.
Fans react to Sarah Strong winning the Wooden Award
This season, Sarah Strong alsonwon Big East Defensive Player of the Year, Big East Player of the Year, Big East Tournament MVP, Wade Trophy, Ann Meyers Drysdale Award, AP Player of the Year, and Naismith College Player of the Year.
Fans online reacted to her winning the Wooden Award. Most were in awe of the UConn star’s dominance. However, some questioned how Sarah Strong won every Player of the Year award over other candidates.
“SARAHHH STRONG??? UConn really got the media crown again while Azzi Fudd been carrying that team for years. Sophomore wins POY over actual vets?” one fan wondered.
“The name said it all from day one. STRONG. God writes the best stories,” one fan said.
“Honestly, she might just be the best player in college basketball, period. How does anyone even argue against that?” one fan claimed.
“Joke. Absolute joke. Shouldn’t have been top 3 let alone the winner,” one fan showed discontent.
“Hannah Hidalgo is better!” another stated.
“Sarah Strong winning the women’s Wooden Award as a sophomore is a massive statement. That’s not just talent, that’s dominance at an early stage. For UConn Huskies, it reinforces a pipeline of elite production and expectation. When a player hits that level this young, it shifts how the entire program and competition landscape gets viewed moving forward,” one fan commented.
