LSU Tigers coach Kim Mulkey and her program are coming off one of their toughest losses of the 2025-26 season, but a positive has seemingly come their way. On Saturday, Feb. 14, Mulkey and her Tigers squad lost 79-72 to their bitter rivals, coach Dawn Staley’s South Carolina Gamecocks, on the former’s home court, the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
However, on Monday, Feb. 16, Mulkey and company hosted the No. 1-ranked recruit among all five-star prospects in the high school class of 2027, Kaleena Smith, in her official campus visit. College basketball writer Zack Nagy shared Smith’s photos in the official LSU uniform on his X
Smith is currently in her junior year of high school hoops as the star point guard for Ontario Christian High School, and is eligible to play in college basketball come the 2027-28 campaign. While it’s still a long way to go before Smith suits up for the next level of basketball, it seems Mulkey and the Tigers are proactively pursuing her to play for their program.
Kaleena Smith Was Given An Offer By The LSU Tigers All The Way Back In 2023
The connection between Kaleena Smith and the LSU Tigers actually goes back to 2023, when the youngster received an official offer from the team.
This can be seen in Smith’s Instagram post from August 2023, where she confirmed that coach Kim Mulkey and her staff have formally given her an offer to play for the program when she eventually gets into college basketball.
“After having an amazing conversation with @g.redus, I am very blessed to say that I have received an offer from LSU!! Thank you to the coaching staff for believing in me!💜💛 #gotigers🐯 #sec #godsplan #allglorytogod,” Smith captioned with a plethora of emojis.
