Dawn Staley and Kim Mulkey have been two of the best coaches in women’s basketball ever. They have been at the peak of their career for quite some time now. Dawn Staley with South Carolina and Kim Mulkey with Baylor and LSU – both coaches have proven to be most consistent basketball coaches of all time. Dawn Staley has been with the Gamecocks for 18 years now. Meanwhile, Kim Mulkey coached at Baylor for 21 years and joined LSU in 2021.
Both coaches have numerous accolades to their names. Among multiple trophies and awards, Dawn Staley has won 3 national championships whereas Kim Mulkey has won 4 NCAA titles. Both coaches have also garnered few of the best players in women’s basketball. Some of the best players that followed Mulkey’s orders include Angel Reese, Brittney Griner, Lauren Cox, Angel Reese. As for Dawn Staley, A’ja Wilson, Aliyah Boston, Allisha Gray, Kamilla Cardoso, Tiffany Mitchell are just some of the names that grew under Staley and made it big.
One most recent player who has now played for both the legendary coaches is MiLaysia Fulwiley. She was a vital part of the Gamecocks squad. However, her fall-out with Staley led to her exit from South Carolina. She then found a home at LSU. Recently, MiLaysia Fulwiley compared the two legendary coaches she has played under and listed their differences on the Get Gordon podcast.
“Kim is crazy. Not crazy, she’s more passionate, I can say. Like at all times. Crazy passion like at all times. I think both are good but like little bit more freer here. I don’t worry about making mistakes. I know if I make a mistake, the next play, get it back. I like both coaches but probably like one of the key differences,” MiLaysia Fulwiley shared how she thinks Dawn Staley and Kim Mulkey are different.
