Geno Auriemma Provides Vital Injury Update on Sarah Strong and Blanca Quinonez Ahead of UConn vs Creighton

UConn Huskies coach Geno Auriemma has given an update on the availability of Sarah Strong and Blanca Quinonez. On Wednesday, Feb. 11, Auriemma and his Huskies will face Jim Flanery’s Creighton Bluejays on the former’s home court, the Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, Connecticut.

Auriemma confirmed in a news conference ahead of the game that Strong will suit up for the Huskies against the Bluejays after a one-game absence. Strong was rested for their most recent matchup against Austin Parkinson’s Butler Bulldogs.

“She (Strong) will play. With the whole team at this time of the year, the most important thing is just making sure that we’re good to go for March,” Auriemma said.

On the other hand, freshman Blanca Quinonez will miss the Huskies’ next game. The young standout is nursing a shoulder injury that has already sidelined her for the Huskies’ past four games. Auriemma said Quinonez has a chance to return to the lineup in their game after Creighton, given the work she has put in to recover.

“I’m sure Blanca wants to be playing right now, but there’s no point in taking any chances.”

Quinonez is UConn’s third leading scorer this season and she impressed the last time the Huskies faced Creighton, tallying 15 points on 7-for-11 in a dominant 95-54 win.

As it stands, the Huskies are undefeated in their 2025 national title defense with an overall record of 25-0 (14-0 Big East). They have dominated the college basketball landscape so far. Following their game against the Bluejays, UConn will face Cara Consuegra’s Marquette Golden Eagles on Saturday, Feb. 14, in away territory.

Sarah Strong Has Only Missed One Game In Her Entire College Basketball Career

The game that Sarah Strong recently missed, when the UConn Huskies matched up against the Butler Bulldogs on Saturday, Feb. 7, was the first time that she had ever missed a game in her college basketball tenure.

UConn defeated the Bulldogs by 32 points, 80-48.
