Azzi Fudd is one of the biggest names heading into the 2026 WNBA draft night on April 13. But just a week before, she followed in her path of faith.
The UConn Huskies star, who was in tears after falling to South Carolina in Final Four, had another emotional moment last week. On April 7, Fudd was baptized alongside teammate KK Arnold. Shortly after UConn’s NCAA Tournament journey ended, the baptism took place during part of a gathering connected to Athletes in Action, a Christian student-athlete organization.
Azzi Fudd Credits Former UConn Star For Introducing to AIA
On her “Fudd Around Podcast,” Azzi Fudd broke the news about her baptism as she talked in length about her Christian faith and the role AIA played. Fudd revealed it was former UConn star Tina Charles who first introduced her to AIA during her sophomore year in Storrs.
“So I’ve been going to AIA since sophomore year and I’ve seen the way that Tina Charles came back and she kind of, she had lunch with us one day my sophomore year and she was telling us about AIA and Diane, um, close run AIA,” Fudd said. “She’s (Charles) a chaplain for the Connecticut Sun and just how that kind of like changed her life.”
Fudd recalled how she and fellow UConn star Ice Brady would fall asleep in church. She revealed she started to fully embrace Jesus Christ last year.
Fudd also shared that she was inspired by the transformation she witnessed in her fellow teammates, Brady and Paige Bueckers, after they embraced Jesus Christ wholly.
“Seeing the way that Ice and Paige have been just being able to see their kind of transformation and their growth and their walk with God and their journey,” Fudd said. “And like, it’s been so clear, it’s been so visible. So you can see the difference in them as people and it’s incredible. You can see like just the peace that they have, the lightness that they’re able to walk with. And I wanted that.”
Fudd also thanked Diane and John at AIA for making the necessary arrangements for her baptism during her final week at UConn, as she was able to have her special occasion in a familiar environment.
