After getting stunned by No. 3 seed Texas in the SEC Tournament final, Dawn Staley’s South Carolina Gamecocks may have to do some soul-searching. After that loss, they are in danger of losing their projected No. 1 seed, and it has many people questioning if they would even make it to the Final Four this year.
After that loss, Dawn Staley spoke with her team and laid out her clear expectations for them, saying that they only want the best in South Carolina and expect their players to play their best while there as they aim to recapture the national title and regroup from that SEC Tournament loss.
“There are little things that you could add to your game today that can impact it. That is all we want to do, is give ourselves the best opportunity to win this year,” Dawn Staley told her players. “We only want the best, so everything that we do from here on out has to help towards that goal. Everything.”
There is no doubt that South Carolina will still make it to the NCAA Tournament with a high seed coming in. The question now is whether or not they will be entering as one of the four No. 1 seeds or enter a little lower, around No. 2 or No. 3. Currently, the Gamecocks are ranked No. 4 in the AP Top 25 following that loss to Texas, with the team formerly being ranked No. 3.
What Seed and What Region Will South Carolina Probably Play In During March Madness?
That loss to the Longhorns was not as devastating for the Gamecocks as many had feared. While they were not able to defend their SEC title, they are still projected to retain their No. 1 seed ahead of Selection Sunday. The question now is, which region will they play in?
While many analysts and publications agree on them still being a No. 1 seed, The Athletic believes they might end up in the Austin Regional against No. 16 Vermont. Meanwhile, USA Today, CBS Sports, Her Hoop Stats and NCAA.com all believe that the Gamecocks will be the No. 1 seed in the Sacramento 4 Regional.
These are just the projections, though, as their final placing will be revealed on Selection Sunday itself.
