There may be some problems brewing at Tennessee soon after their NCAA Tournament exit and the drama regarding their senior players quitting abruptly after feeling disrespected by head coach Kim Caldwell during Senior Night.
Six players have revealed their plans to enter the transfer portal, including four freshmen who were once highly touted recruits.
The transfer portal itself is yet to open, which means more players might be announcing their entries in the days to come. It is slated to open on April 7, soon after the National Championship Game, and close on April 21.
So other players still have plenty of time to announce their intentions. Here are the players who have announced their transfer entry so far and are leaving Tennessee:
Tennessee Women’s Basketball Transfer Portal Entrants
- Kaniya Boyd, sophomore guard
- Mya Pauldo, freshman guard
- Mia Pauldo, freshman guard
- Lauren Hurst, freshman guard
- Deniya Prawl, freshman guard
- Alyssa Latham, junior forward
Losing so many freshmen, all of whom are guards, could be costly for any program, and Kim Caldwell just saw a lot of them exit. The biggest blow should be the Pauldo Twins, Mya and Mia, with Mia being a prolific scorer as a shooting guard and Mya being a reliable playmaker at point guard.
While Mia averaged 10.4 points per game, her sister did not see much minutes but she did do some playmaking when she was in the court.
Another big blow should be Deniya Prawl, Tennessee’s other five-star freshman guard. While Mia Pauldo is a starter under Caldwell, Prawl, who also came in with a lot of hype, did not get to shine as much and just averaged 4.0 points per game.
The exit of their three high-profile freshmen should have the Vols program reeling as they were supposed to be the future.
Lauren Hurst is the fourth freshman to leave Tennessee, and she will be joined by sophomore Kamila Boyd and junior Alyssa Latham who had been a post presence as a power forward. They are seeking new opportunities with other schools as soon as the portal officially opens, as they are still technically with the Lady Vols.
