The UConn Huskies, coached by Geno Auriemma, have revealed an almost $100-million investment plan for the team, moving forward as a powerhouse program.
On Tuesday, March 24, @justwomenssports on Instagram uploaded a carousel post about the Huskies’ investment, which is officially underway and in production for the team’s future.
In the upload, it was revealed that the Connecticut-based program has begun its renovations at one of its home arenas, the Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, Connecticut. With the pegs and renders included in the post, it was announced that the development will feature new locker rooms, coach and player recruit lounges, and improved press conference rooms.
The program will also work towards improving its fan experience by allotting some of the budget to the new concession stands and gameday spaces where fans and spectators can stay besides watching from the stands.
Additionally, UConn will include philanthropy-focused spaces in the arena, which are part of their efforts to proactively grow the program’s fanbase and popularity and develop the game of basketball further.
“The $99.4M renovations to the basketball arena are already underway.

For now, the focus of coach Auriemma and his Huskies is on the 2026 national title, as they are the reigning champions. They have made it all the way to the Sweet 16 of this year’s March Madness, where they are set to face coach Courtney Banghart’s North Carolina Tar Heels on Friday, March 27, on neutral grounds, the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
UConn Huskies Athletic Director David Benedict Is Ecstatic To Showcase The Program’s “Electric Atmosphere”
In the UConn Huskies’ announcement of the Gampel Pavilion renovations, a statement from the school’s athletic director, David Benedict, was included.
Benedict said UConn is considered by many to be the “basketball capital of the world.” With this, he hoped that the renovations could further showcase the Huskies program’s “electric atmosphere.”
“Gampel Pavilion is one of the most electric atmospheres in all of college basketball, and our student-athletes and fans deserve a facility that matches the standard we hold ourselves to every day. UConn is the basketball capital of the world, and this investment ensures that when you walk through those doors, you feel it. We are incredibly excited about what this project means for the future of our programs.” Benedict said.
