UConn Women’s Basketball Recruiting: Geno Auriemma’s 5-Star Prospect Makes Feelings Very Clear On Future Teammate Sarah Strong

Geno Auriemma’s UConn Huskies have had an unbeaten run so far this season. They will take on the UTSA Roadrunners in the NCAA Tournament First Round on March 21 at Gampel Pavilion in Mansfield, Connecticut.

Once the season is over, several players from the Auriemma camp move on to the next chapter in their careers, including the WNBA. That will create space for a new batch of youngsters taking charge of the program.

17-year-old Olivia Vukosa is a center out of Christ the King Regional High School in Queens. At 6’4, she is one of the best players in the upcoming class and has committed to Geno Auriemma’s Huskies.

Her top five choices included UConn, South Carolina, LSU, Texas, and Ohio State. She committed to the Huskies in October 2025 and signed the National Letter of Intent the following month. Vukosa is excited to start her college basketball journey.

During a recent conversation with CBS Sports’ Isabel Gonzalez while sitting next to Diana Taurasi, Vukosa was asked about being teammates with Sarah Strong and what she likes about her game.

“Everything,” she said. “She’s just an all-around player, and I can’t wait to feed her the ball, and I hope she’s excited to feed me the ball in the post.”

During her junior year in high school, she averaged 19.4 points, 17.9 rebounds, 5.5 blocks, and 3.8 assists per game. She led her school to the Catholic High School Athletic Association Tier 1 New York City Tournament title and won the Gatorade Player of the Year.

Vukosa averaged 17.8 points, 18.1 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 4.4 blocks per game in her senior year and won the Gatorade Player of the Year honor for the second time in a row.

Geno Auriemma on Azzi Fudd’s Last Year with UConn

Auriemma recently spoke about his star player, Azzi Fudd, being on her final run at UConn. After this season, she’s headed to the WNBA, where she is projected to be a top draft pick. Auriemma said that even though she might be emotional about leaving UConn, Fudd must be excited for her future.

The Huskies head coach said that this will be Fudd’s last chance to win another national title with the program.

“Players are people, and people are human. They’re affected by emotion in many different ways. I’m sure there’s a part of Azzi that’s unbelievably excited — it’s her last chance to get another national championship,” he said.

Fudd won the NCAA title in 2025, but winning it again this year will carry a different meaning as she’s the one leading the team this time.
