Matt Dowell recently posted the WBB AP Poll Week 12 ballot, and there are some noticeable changes. Kim Mulkey’s LSU climbed back inside the top five while Dawn Staley and Geno Auriemma’s teams maintained their top 3 spots.
UConn remains the best team in the country. The Huskies are yet to lose a game and unanimously received all 31 votes for first place. They are 23-0 and are the only undefeated team right now.
UCLA kept its number two spot with a 21-1 overall record. The other two programs in the top four also remained unchanged. South Carolina and Texas, with 21-2, make up the top four this week, and their spots remain unchanged.
From number five to number 10, every spot was shuffled between programs. Kim Mulkey’s LSU moved back up to the number five spot. They are followed by Louisville in the sixth position with a 21-3 record. This is Louisville’s best ranking since 2022.
Vanderbilt lost two spots and dropped down to number seven in the rankings with a 21-2 record. The rest of the top 10 comprises Big Ten teams. Michigan follows Vanderbilt at number seven with 19-3 overall record.
Michigan is followed by Ohio State with 20-3 and Iowa with 18-4. It’s worth noting that this is Iowa’s first appearance inside the top 10 ranking in a year. The SEC dominates the chart with three teams inside the top three and four teams overall inside the top 10.
The Big Ten is right there with them, with four teams inside the top 10. Overall, the SEC has nine teams in the poll this week as compared to the Big Ten’s seven.
Kim Mulkey After 40 Point Win Over Alabama
The LSU Tigers registered their seventh consecutive win with a dominant 40-point victory against the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Tigers outscored Alabama in each quarter, and their defense didn’t allow them to bounce back at any point.
The Tigers closed the game 103-63, handing Alabama their fourth loss this season and ending their two-game winning streak. After the win, Kim Mulkey was all praise for her team’s defense.
“Our defense today was special,” she said. “You just wish you could bottle that up and play like that every game. We just beat a very good basketball team. Do not be misled by that score. Everything that we did defensively today affected what we did offensively.”
Mulkey showed respect to the Crimson Tide team, stating that they’ll continue to beat great teams in the rest of the season. But in that particular matchup, their defense outperformed everyone on the court.
