This Sunday, UConn and Tennessee will meet again, adding another chapter to the UConn vs. Tennessee WBB rivalry. Considered one of the greatest rivalries in women’s basketball, both teams are coming in as two of the best teams in college basketball, with the Vols being the No. 15 team and the Huskies being No. 1 and are still undefeated so far.
The rivalry began around the 1994-95 season, when Summitt built the Lady Vols into one of the best teams in the country. However, a rising power was coming in from Connecticut, and it was coached by Auriemma. Since then, whenever these two teams meet, it has often been close.
It was UConn that upset the then-No. 1 Tennessee 77-66 in Storrs that year, and then beat the Lady Vols again during the national championship game. Since then, the Lady Vols have gotten their revenge, only for the Huskies to pay them back, with the cycle going on with Tennessee going for a three-peat and beating UConn multiple times, but the Vols would soon lose six straight to the Huskies as Auriemma led them to their own three-peat.
The rivalry has since reignited in 2019 as the Vols entered a new era after their long-time coach passed away.

The Geno Auriemma vs Pat Summitt rivalry helped popularized women’s basketball in the 1990s, but after Summitt passed away in 2016, the question now is, which of these two legendary coaches has the most victories against the other?
Overall, including the ones after Summitt retired, the Huskies have a 17-10 record against Tennessee, with the Lady Vols beating them back in February of last year during the last time these two met.
