LSU had a disappointing season, being eliminated by the Duke Blue Devils during the Sweet 16 stage of the NCAA Tournament and failing to make the Final Four in a rare upset loss. That does not mean that Kim Mulkey’s squad has lost their edge, as the Tigers are still one of the best programs in women’s college basketball.
For the incoming WNBA draft, only one LSU player is projected to enter it, and that is senior guard Flau’jae Johnson. The rapper and shooting guard has proven to be one of LSU’s biggest scoring threats, but is also a great defender and passer.
She averages 14.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.3 steals per game on 46.7% shooting and is the Tigers’ leading scorer. The LSU guard is projected by many to go early in the first round, but where exactly could she land, and how does she stand in the draft?
This year is very heavy on guards, with UConn’s Azzi Fudd, UCLA’s Keke Rice and South Carolina’s Raven Johnson being her biggest competitors, so she might be drafted early, but could also go down as teams pick other big-name guards.
Where Could LSU Star Flau’jae Johnson Land In The NBA Draft
Several big publications believe Flau’Jae Johnson could get picked as early as the fifth pick, which belongs to the rebuilding Chicago Sky. While she might not be able to play with former teammate Angel Reese there anymore, she might make an impact as a point guard.
CBS Sports, meanwhile, has her go as the No. 6 pick, which belongs to the expansion team, the Portland Fire, which needs a point guard to go with their current roster. She could also go to the Toronto Tempo at No. 7.
With so many talented guards on the roster, Johnson could also end up being picked outside of the top ten, with her getting picked as late as No. 11, which belongs to the Washington Mystics.
Officially, Johnson has not announced her entry yet, but with her eligibility already out, the LSU star is projected to enter the draft more or less this year. Kailyn Gilbert and Izzy Besselman are the other two seniors on LSU’s roster, but they are not generating as much buzz as Johnson.
