Who Do Nebraska Volleyball Face in 2026? Opponents, New Format & 9 Home Matches Revealed

The Nebraska volleyball team has been on a roll since the decade-defining spring win this April, with an unbeaten 3-0 exhibition record. The Cornhuskers, however, have a startling challenge ahead as the Big Ten has announced the volleyball opponent rotations for 2026, which reveal the Huskers will play nine Big Ten home matches and eight away games during the upcoming season.

The volleyball rotation announcement specifies how many matches a team will play at home and on the road. The 2026-27 season has seen a complete opponent rotation for 18 schools, with each member institution playing a 17-match conference schedule against all conference opponents as part of a single round-robin schedule.

As for the Huskers, the Big Ten has confirmed that the team will play 17 regular-season conference matches instead of 20. Their home matches will include bouts against Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, and six other programs, while their time away from the Devaney Center will see them take on Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, and five other powerhouses.

Volleyball programs across the nation, including the Huskers, have been part of the traditional 20-game conference program, which has now shifted to 17 due to the conference’s expansion to 18 teams to bring about a steady, balanced schedule.

As the Huskers gear up for a strong prep for their upcoming schedule, here are the key details to know about the revamped 2026 volleyball season.

    Big Ten’s New Format

The Big Ten has evolved from its traditional norms of extended slates and repeat matchups since bringing in the women’s volleyball tournament under its radar. The conference has scrapped the 20-game format and has introduced a new single-round robin schedule that acts as a “one and done” rule.

This time, every team will play just one game against their opponents in a 17-match schedule, which is designed on a two-year cycle, making sure that no team gets an unfair advantage of playing some opponents at home more than others.

The locations will also flip when 2027 hits, when the Huskers, alongside other teams, will face their home opponents in a different location to ensure fairness and scheduled balancing.

The first-ever Big Ten volleyball tournament is scheduled for Nov. 20-25 in Fishers, Indiana, and will feature the top 15 teams in the conference standings.
