After featuring in two Olympics, Suni Lee may be gearing up for what could be her third appearance in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. She has won two gold, one silver, and three bronze medals in her two previous appearances at the Summer Games.
On Tuesday, Lee posted a video in which the six-time Olympic medalist is shown taking a look at the gym in formal wear, hinting that she is starting to prepare for a potential appearance at the 2028 Olympics. The video combines her gym highlights right from when she was a young girl.
“I know what I’m capable of. I’m willing to do whatever it takes to get there. Back in the gym… We’ll see,” she said in the video.
At the end of the video, there’s an overlay text message with Lee’s signature below. It said:
“This is more than a comeback, stay tuned.”
Lee’s return to the Summer Games is significant because of what she has gone through. In 2023, she was diagnosed with two rare kidney diseases that sidelined her from any gymnastics activity. Still, she managed to recover in time for the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she won gold for the US in the team event alongside Simone Biles, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey, and Hezly Rivera. She also earned bronze medals in the all-around and uneven bars.
The latest video is just a hint, not firm confirmation, that she indeed aims to participate in the 2028 Olympics.
What Suni Lee Said About LA Olympics Earlier
In February, Suni Lee talked about her potential appearance in LA 2028. At the time, she said that she wanted her body to decide whether a third appearance was possible. She doesn’t want to enter the Games with the same pressure that she felt heading into Paris.
“I think last Olympics I put so much pressure on myself,” Lee said on NBC’s Today Show. “I just kind of want to see where I’m at and how my body feels.”
After coming up triumphant in Paris, Lee was awarded the ESPY for Best Comeback Athlete in July 2025.
The 2028 Olympics are still two years away. She would be 25 by then. Talking about age, decorated gymnast Simone Biles was 27 in Paris. The only thing that could keep her out of a potential third appearance is her health. She has a permanent kidney condition, which means if she wants to be at the top of her game when the time comes, the training for the same starts now.
