“From One Gold Medal Winner To Another” – Steph Curry Sends Sweet Bay Area Message To Alysa Liu At Oakland Honor

Alysa Liu was recently praised by the NBA star Steph Curry for her incredible performance at the 2026 Winter Olympics. The Golden State Warriors coach, Steve Kerr, also shared a sweet message for her at the massive Oakland homecoming.

Liu stood out in the Milano-Cortina campaign, as she delivered impressive performances in the team event and the individual free skate program. She played a major role in her team’s gold-medal win by recording 74.90 points, securing a second-place finish in her discipline. This led to Team USA clinching the gold medal.

During the free skate program, she etched her name in history books by becoming the first American to win gold in the women’s figure skating event in 24 years. She registered a score of 226.79 to stand atop the podium for her second gold medal.

Days after these victories, she was honored in her hometown, Oakland, at Frank Ogawa Plaza, where she received kind words from Curry, who himself won a gold medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics as part of the USA men’s basketball team.

“Alysa, congratulations on your gold medal achievement representing not only the United States but the Bay Area, Oakland. Super proud, congratulations, you did that from one gold medal winner to another, just wanna say keep doing your thing, keep representing the Bay, and we love you. Peace,” said Curry.

    Kerr said:

“Alysa, I just want to say congratulations. That was so incredible to watch. The whole Bay Area is so proud of you, and everybody with the Warriors was watching and pulling for you, and so excited. So, thanks for representing the bay and making us all proud.”

Liu was recently spotted at Paris Fashion Week alongside American actress Zendaya. The skater rocked a chic brown-colored outfit.

Alysa Liu Reveals How She Chose The Music For Her Olympic Performances

Days after wrapping up her Olympics campaign, Alysa Liu sat for a conversation with “The Rolling Stone,” where she was asked how she chose the songs for her performances on ice at the Milano-Cortina. Revealing the reasons behind every song she chose for her performances, she said she related to those songs and had been listening to them for a long time.

“ll go to my short program, Promise by Leve. I was listening to that song like since she released it, and it was one of my favorites. And I really related to it on like a personal level. And I was like, wow, this is like perfect for my figure skating story. I was like, I have to skate to it. Like, it moves me, and I can envision a program to it. So, well, I thought it was a perfect choice. And then with my state side by Pink Panthers and Zara Larson gala number, it’s one of my favorite songs,” said Alysa Liu (2:44 onwards).
    She added:
“Pink Panthers. I actually had, she has her like the OG is just on her side. But then, when Zara hopped on it, like it’s a remix, A lot of Zara’s lyrics I related to a lot. And I was like, wow, this would be so perfect for the Olympic gala. And so that’s kind of how it came about.”

Alysa Liu was expected to compete at the World Figure Skating Championships in Prague after her Olympic appearance. However, she withdrew from the event.
