Jax Forrest recently sent a strong message after his dominant technical fall win over Drake Ayala. He competed in the NCAA college wrestling dual meet between the Oklahoma State Cowboys and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Forrest dominated the match from start to finish against Ayala on Sunday, February 22. The clash between both the teams took place at the Gallagher-Iba Arena, which saw a sellout crowd of 12,629. The Cowboys secured a 32-11 win over Iowa, and Forrest played a pivotal role in this. He secured a 19-3 technical fall over his opponent, and it was the second clash of the day. Before his match, OSU’s Troy Spratey defeated Dean Peterson with a 5-2 victory.
Following the stellar win, Forrest sat for a conversation with ESPN, where he issued a blunt message, revealing that he is focusing on nabbing the National Champion title. Opening up about working on his form, he said:
“Crazy. It’s awesome. Just wrestling. Coaches say wrestle every position, no matter what’s going on. I’m winning, I’m losing, I’m gonna wrestle in positions (and get) five points … National champ, that’s all I’m going to say, that’s what I’m working for. I don’t care who’s in my way. Nobody in the country, nobody in the world can tech (Drake Ayala) like that. So my offense, my defense, I’m gonna keep getting better and be unstoppable,” said Jax Forrest.
Before competing for Oklahoma, Forrest was associated with Bishop McCory High School. He announced an early departure from his school after skipping his final semester to join the OSU college wrestling team.
Jax Forrest made his feelings known about his win against Drake Ayala
After his remarkable win against Drake Ayala on Sunday, Jax Forrest sat for a media conversation, where he revealed how ecstatic he was with the win. Lauding his opponent, he said that he felt great to compete against someone like him. Highlighting his wrestling journey, he said:
“It was surreal wrestling somebody who’s that high caliber. And I’m just feeling that flow state where everything I’m doing is perfect timing, perfect amount of strength, everything, where it felt like that was the best version of myself, which is what I strive for. Last week, I wasn’t where I wanted to be, then this week, that happening leading up to Big 12s and NCAAs, it’s just surreal. It’s awesome,” said Jax Forrest.
In addition to this, OSU’s coach David Taylor also praised Forrest and the other two matches that set the tone for the university.
“That beginning, those first three matches, really set the tone. Proud of those guys. It takes courage to go out and do those things. It’s easy to stand around,” said David Taylor.
Jax Forrest was one of the top 2026 recruits before he graduated early to join OSU. He has added multiple feathers to his hat so far, including the 2025 U23 World Champion title, 2025 senior world team member, and two-time PIAA state champion title.
