    Alysa Liu Withdrawal From 2026 Worlds Confirmed After She Expressed Hesitation During a Recent Live TV Interview

    Alysa Liu has reportedly withdrawn from the upcoming World Figure Skating Championships, as she recently expressed her hesitation about appearing at the tournament. She recently concluded her Winter Olympics campaign at Milan-Cortina.

    Liu stole the spotlight at Milan by delivering commanding performances in the team event and the free skate events, where she won two gold medals. She opened her campaign in the team event, where she earned a score of 74.90, securing a second-place finish and played a significant role in her team’s gold medal win.

    Following this, she won her second gold medal in the free skate finals, where she secured 226.79 points. After the completion of her run in Milan, Liu was expected to compete at the World Championships, which is slated for March 24 to March 29 in Prague.

    However, in her recent interview with the New York Stock Exchange, she expressed hesitation about competing in the tournament, confirming her withdrawal from the tournament. She said (2:50 onwards):

    “I have maybe World Championships coming up. I have yet to fully decide if I’m going to do it, but I really want to. That’s end of March. And then we have Stars on Ice Tours where me and the other Olympic skaters, we go and do programs, all around the US. So, and that’s coming up in April.”

    Her withdrawal was confirmed in the roster, which featured American skaters, including Sarah Everhardt, who replaced Liu, Amber Glenn, and Isabea Levito.

    Alysa Liu Opened up About Decision Behind Returning to Ice After Early Retirement 

    In the aforementioned interview, Alysa Liu spoke about her decision of coming  back to ice after her early retirement at the age of 16. The American skater made her Olympic debut at the 2022 Winter Olympics, where she did not earn any podium finish, and shortly after this announced her retirement.
    She made a comeback for her second Olympic appearance at the 2026 Winter Olympics and revealed that now she is able to make her own decisions regarding everything related to the performance (0:36 onwards):
    “Well, I wasn’t able to pick my own music before, pick what dresses I wore, pick the programs I had, and this time I get to because I have my own, you know, I have my own ideas and my own opinions about all that stuff. And it’s really my art and I am just here to express it.”
    She further opened up about her creative process, adding:
    “It’s a lot of listening to music. Um, it’s a lot of dancing on and off the ice. Um, and honestly, I get a lot of inspiration from my siblings and my friends, so I prioritize being with them.”
    Alysa Liu recently met Harry Potter fame actor Daniel Radcliffe in the backstage after her recent interview.
