Ryan Crookham has joined hands with the Iowa Hawkeyes and revealed how the calling was long in the making. As soon as Crookham made it to the transfer portal, fellow athletes congratulated the All-American, with Crookham himself mentioning how the immediate phone call from the Hawkeyes cemented his upcoming season.
The transfer portal season is kicking in full throttle, and the Lehigh alumnus Ryan Crookham made his entrance at 133 lbs with Iowa. The decision came long before Crookham was selected for Iowa, as the All-American revealed how his wrestling roots developed in Iowa and Oklahoma State styles all along while growing up.
It was revealed that Crookham realized his Iowa entry when his phone rang and the caller ID said “Iowa City.” The call from Iowa coincidentally became Crookham’s first call since his portal entry, making it all the more exciting.
Confirmed through various sources, Crookham visited the Hawkeyes’ wrestling facility just before the call and revealed how much it felt like the classic homecoming saga and less of a ceremonial induction. Through his visit, he spoke about how everyone was welcoming and humble with a focused mindset on winning.
Crookham reflected on his early days of growing up with Iowa’s gritty wrestling style and appreciated the culture that the Hawkeyes bring. The journey from Mountain Hawks to Iowa Hawkeyes has shown Crookham’s wrestling endeavor with neon that promises a startling journey ahead.
Iowa Hawkeyes Strengths this Lineup with Greyson Pettit’s Addition
The Iowa Hawkeyes are seeing a generational run as the transfer portal buzzes with promising prospects trying to get an entry into All-Star programs. Hawkeyes have, however, had a busy start as they have recruited top athletes from rival programs, which also includes Greyson Pettit.
The New Jersey native from Delsea Regional High School officially made the announcement of his joining the Hawkeyes on his social media with enormous pride, signaling a promising endeavor.
His previous stints have already echoed the classic, gritty Iowan mindset, notably when Pettit, despite a torn ACL during his junior season, won the state title during the New Jersey State Championships.
With all the additions, including Crookham and Pettit, the Iowa Hawkeyes now aim to bag more elite mat masters as the upcoming wrestling season looms over.
