Mikaela Shiffrin Joins Lindsey Vonn To Praise Teammates Moltzan and Wiles’ Win Despite Missing Podium by 0.06s at Winter Olympics 2026

Skier Mikaela Shiffrin celebrated Team USA 2’s Paula Moltzan and Jacqueline Wiles’ bronze medal finish in the women’s alpine skiing team combined event at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina. Austria’s Ariane Raeddler and Katharina Huber came first, followed by Germany’s Kira Weidle-Winkelmann and Emma Aicher in the silver medal position.

Meanwhile, representing Team USA 1, Shiffrin and Breezy Johnson fell short of a bronze medal finish by just 0.06 seconds. Moreover, Team USA 3’s Keely Cashman and AJ Hurt finished in 15th position.

Team USA’s X account celebrated Moltzan and Wiles’ first career Olympic medal:

“Memories to last a lifetime. 🥹 Jackie Wiles and Paula Moltzan celebrate their first career #WinterOlympics medals.”

Despite her own disappointment, Shiffrin congratulated the pair on winning their first-ever Olympic medals.

“Congrats, Jackie and Paula: you both deserve that so much!! 🤩🥳🥳” she wrote.

    Shiffrin’s Instagram story

Shiffrin was not the only skier from the USA who celebrated their achievement. Alpine ski racer Lindsey Vonn also posted about their accomplishment on Instagram. She wrote:

    “Congrats you two.”

    Vonn’s Instagram story

Vonn suffered a horrific crash in her event and was required to be airlifted. One week before, she ruptured her ACL. Breezy Johnson, who finished first in the women’s downhill event on Sunday, shared that Vonn was cheering for their team in the combined team event.

“Her coach said she was cheering for me in the helicopter, so I hope for the best for her,” Johnson told reporters. “My heart aches for her. It’s such a brutal sport sometimes.”

How Mikaela Shiffrin Fumbled Potential Medal Finish at 2026 Winter Olympics?

At the 2026 Winter Olympics, the new team combined format requires each nation to field two skiers, one in the downhill and the other in the slalom. Total times are added in the final result.

Breezy Johnson posted the fastest downhill time. However, Shiffrin struggled and her slalom time was only the 15th fastest. In the end, they missed the bronze medal to the other American pair by just 0.06s.

This marks another time when Shiffrin has been unable to show her dominance at the Olympics. In the same slalom leg, she has previously won gold in the 2014 Sochi Games. At the 2018 PyeongChang Games, she won gold in the giant slalom and silver in the combined event.
