U.S. figure skating star Amber Glenn has addressed the recent music copyright controversy surrounding her performance at the 2026 Winter Olympics, offering clarity and gratitude after days of online speculation.
Glenn delivered a stunning performance at the Milan-Cortina on February 8 in the figure skating team event. She performed in the women’s free skate segment, playing a pivotal role in securing a gold medal for her team. She faced a rather stumbling start, as she had trouble executing the triple Axel and the triple flip-triple toe loop routine.
However, she was quick to bounce back, and, producing a clutch performance, she earned a third-place finish. She secured a total of 138.62 points, which comprised 70.91 points in the technical score and 67.71 points in the components. Following her team’s gold medal win, she landed in an unexpected controversy, as the artist of the song she used during her routine called her out for using his song without permission.
Days after this, Glenn cleared the air by sharing a message on social media, opening up about the issue and explaining how the misunderstanding unfolded. She revealed that the matter has since been resolved amicably between both parties.
“Sometimes new friendships start in unexpected ways. I discovered Seb Mckinnon’s music (Clann) two years ago and felt a deep connection to it. The issue of music rights can be complex and confusing, seems like there was a hiccup in that whole process. I’m glad we cleared things up with Seb and I look forward to collaborating with him. It was a dream come true to perform at the Olympic games and to have Seb acknowledge my performance and congratulate me afterward made the moment even more special,” said Amber Glenn.
She further added:
“It’s my sincere hope that I was able to help create new fans of both figure skating and Seb. We will move forward and continue supporting both artists and the skating community.”
Amber Glenn made her feelings known about the celebration after the Olympic gold-medal win
After winning the gold medal in the team event at the 2026 Winter Olympics, Amber Glenn addressed the media. Here, she shared the details of the victory and opened up about the wild celebrations. She revealed that they celebrated the triumph till the next morning.
Calling it ‘chaos’, she said:
“It was chaos. Honestly, afterwards, so many things ensued. I know I was in the arena for about another two hours, so we didn’t leave until the early hours of the morning. But afterwards, we all got some rest, and now we’re here, which is absolutely incredible,” said Amber Glenn.
Expressing gratitude towards her teammates, she added:
“Absolutely incredible. And I’m just so grateful for this team. They all put their heart and souls out there on the ice. And I’m just so happy to have been part of this.”
Amber Glenn will be gracing the Olympic stage on February 17 in the women’s single, short program.
