In the women’s giant slalom on Sunday, expectations were again high, but the race didn’t unfold as hoped. Shiffrin sat outside medal contention after the opening run and was unable to recover enough time in the final run, finishing off the podium.
She entered the second run of the day 1.02 seconds behind Italian Federica Brignone and was just .056 seconds out of third place. Even though she had a strong start, she suffered a delay in the middle part of the course to finish in 1:10.17 and recorded a combined time of 2:14.42.
