“Last year has been a rollercoaster” – Mikaela Shiffrin Recalls Journey From Major Crash To Making Comeback Leading To The Winter Olympics

Mikaela Shiffrin recently reflected on her past season, filled with some major feats and marred by severe setbacks. Her 2025 season began with recovering from the devastating crash she suffered on November 30, 2024, in Killington, Vermont.

Shiffrin smashed into the gate after hitting the snow and toppled over her skis to crash into the protective fence while eyeing her 100th World Cup victory. The American skier suffered a five-centimeter puncture wound near her hip. She was forced to undergo surgery.

However, the multiple-time Olympic medalist was back on the snow exactly two months after the crash. She showed her grit and resilience and went on to record one of her most successful seasons.

The 30-year-old made her return to the slopes on January 30, 2025, in the World Cup slalom race in Courchevel, France. She settled in 10th place. On February 23, 2025, Shiffrin registered her most-anticipated 100th World Cup victory in Sestriere, Italy. A year after Shiffrin made her return to the slope, What’s the Point with Mikaela Shiffrin posted a video of the skier when she was admitted to the hospital. Shiffrin reshared the video on her Instagram story and expressed her gratitude while looking back on the turbulent year.

“The last year has been a rollercoaster and I’m so thankful to be where I am now. Thank you all for your support,” Shiffrin wrote.
