Gable Steveson recently signed with UFC, becoming the latest Olympic medalist to join the mixed martial arts promotion. This turned the heads of his wrestling fans, who trolled him with the ‘loophole’ mockery, referring to his controversial legal history.
Steveson, a Tokyo Olympic wrestling gold medalist, former WWE star, and a 3-0 MMA fighter, after making his debut in September last year, has now announced that he will debut with UFC in July in Las Vegas. This announcement was made during UFC327 on Saturday. Reacting to this news, fans trolled him with the ‘loophole’ comment, signalling his 2019 sexual assault legal case.
Steveson and another University of Minnesota wrestler, Dylan Martinez, were accused of sexual assault. However, they avoided the charges because of a lack of evidence and a specific Minnesota legal loophole known as the ‘voluntary intoxication loophole.’ The alleged victim had consumed alcohol voluntarily, so the prosecution faced significant legal hurdles in proving the crime, which led to the decision not to file charges.
Recalling this incident, fans online trolled Steveson after the announcement of him officially joining the UFC team. One of the users on X, mocking him, wrote:
“Congrats to Gable Stevenson for signing to the UFC!!! This happened via the new Gable Stevenson Loophole… Just google “Gable Stevenson Loophole” #UFC327.”
Another fan, trolling him, said that even if no one faces him in UFC, he will automatically become the champion with a special loophole.
“I heard there’s a weird loophole in his contract that states if no one accepts he becomes champion. Don’t believe me google “gable Steveson loophole.”
Taking a shot at the former wrestler, another follower wrote:
“Apparently his manager snuck something in his contract that gives him a title shot right away. Look up ‘Gable Steveson Loophole’ for more info.”
Along similar lines, another user chimed in:
“Ah yes the ufc will give him an immediate title shot when the interim belt is being fought for at the White House, makes sense.”
When Gable Steveson opened up about his loss to Wyatt Hendrickson in 2025 NCAA
Gable Steveson locked horns with Wyatt Hendrickson at the 2025 NCAA Wrestling Championships heavyweight final on March 22, 2025, in Philadelphia. In this bout, Hendrickson got the better of Steveson, securing a 5-4 victory in a major upset. He earned the win with a takedown in the final 13 seconds, making it Steveson’s only second collegiate loss.
After the loss, the Olympian appeared on the “Pat McAfee Show,” where he made his feelings known about his loss, saying that he was not happy with the upset. However, revealing that he had ‘fun’ with the experience, he said:
“I’m not happy with the result that happened this past weekend. But it’s a blessing to go out there in front of the crowd, in front of the biggest stage, and since leaving in 2022, I’ve always wanted to go out there and give one last good push for the University of Minnesota. So that’s what I try to do,” said Gable Steveson.
He added:
“I try to make things as big as possible, and I love the show, I love going out there and feeling the jitters, having your heart race, and having a great opponent across from you. Win or lose, the road doesn’t end for me, and I keep going forward. It just wasn’t my time, and I’m cool with that.”
