Alysa Liu recently revealed the reason for withdrawing from the 2026 Figure Skating World Championships, saying she has other exciting things coming up. Fresh off her victorious campaign at the Milano Cortina Olympic Games, Liu was slated to compete at the ISU World Championships to be held in Prague, Czechia, from March 24 to 29.
Liu began her campaign in Milano Cortina by competing in the short program in the team event, where she bagged 74.90 points to settle in second place and lead the team to a gold medal. Following this, she entered the ice rink for the individual event. The American figure skater clinched a total of 226.79 points to dominate the event and ended the American squad’s Olympic medal drought in the event, since Sasha Cohen’s silver at the 2006 edition.
After the remarkable success, Liu was expected to compete in the World Championships, but she decided to withdraw, saying she had several new and exciting opportunities coming up.
“Hellooo as some of yall already know, I withdrew from Worlds. There’s been a lot of exciting things happening since my return from Milan, so I’m taking some time for that. I will be cheering everyone on from afar. See yall next season,” she wrote on her Instagram story.

Sarah Everhardt will replace Liu at the World Championships. Liu will make an appearance on the Stars on Ice Tour, which will be held in multiple cities, including Fort Myers, Fort Lauderdale, and Orlando in April.
