Ohio State is looking to add another quarterback to its program. The Buckeyes are making a late, aggressive push to flip Nebraska commit Trae Taylor, signaling that Ryan Day and his staff are still evaluating their long-term plans for the position.
Despite already committing to QB Brady Edmunds, Ohio State is still trying to pursue Taylor, a four-star quarterback who is currently committed to Nebraska.
Taylor, one of the top QBs in the 2027 class, and he committed to the Cornhuskers in May 2025. Since then, he has emerged as a key piece of Matt Rhule’s recruiting efforts.
According to reports, the Buckeyes have already visited Taylor’s high school and established communication. Head coach Ryan Day has reportedly been in touch with him, highlighting how serious the program is about potentially adding a second quarterback to the team.
Right now, due to the uncertainty, the Buckeyes appear to be exploring all options through high school recruiting or the transfer portal.
Can Ohio State Get Trae Taylor to Join the Team?
Flipping Taylor is going to be a difficult task. For starters, the Nebraska commit has shown strong loyalty since pledging to the program. He also transferred schools to Lincoln, showcasing his seriousness about being a part of Nebraska.
His family has also made their stance clear. According to reports, Taylor is not expected to take additional visits, which could shut down Ohio State’s chances to get him.
Taylor has a standout season, completing over 81% of his passes for 3,571 yards, along with 38 touchdowns and just three interceptions. Analysts have even compared his play style to former Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud.
Ryan Day has traditionally preferred to take just one quarterback per class to maintain balance in the room. However, the current situation has made roster planning very unpredictable.
Adding a second quarterback would provide the team with insurance and flexibility.
Still, unless something changes dramatically, Nebraska remains firmly in control of this recruitment.
For now, Ohio State is applying pressure, but flipping Trae Taylor would require a lot more than just showing interest.
