Ohio State QB Julian Sayin Opens Up About Offseason Plans To Make Most of Summer Break in 2026

After taking the Ohio State Buckeyes to a deep College Football Playoff run, Julian Sayin is in the middle of the offseason. While a normal student of Ohio State would get about a summer break of three months, for quarterback Sayin, it’s almost a year-round job, less two and a half weeks.

On Wednesday, Sayin joined The Triple Option show, where he discussed his offseason plans, including training, enjoying with family and hanging out with friends.

“Yeah, you get about two and a half, three weeks, and then you’re back to it in summer workouts and throwing with the guys and all that,” Sayin said. “You definitely have to, you know, reset. You know, we play a kind of year-round sport, chill and hang out with some friends and family, and then also know, you know, when it’s time to work and when it’s time to improve on those things that you thought about all summer and all spring.”

In 2025, Sayin was announced as the starting quarterback as a redshirt freshman. He led the Buckeyes to an unbeaten 12-0 record in the regular season but lost the Big Ten Championship to the Indiana Hoosiers. In the College Football Playoff, he led Ohio State to the quarterfinals, where they were defeated by the Miami Hurricanes.

Overall, in 14 games, Sayin passed for 3,610 yards with 32 touchdowns against eight interceptions while completing 77% passes.

Julian Sayin Maximizing Offseason To Take Ohio State Back to NCAA Title

Julian Sayin’s Ohio State had an impressive bunch of guys to repeat as champions. However, they failed in the quarterfinals. Now, ahead of the 2026 season, all eyes are on Sayin to deliver the natty with the help of the impressive haul that Ryan Day has assembled.

Talking on The Triple Option show, Sayin revealed how he is making the full use of the offseason, working on areas where he struggled last season.

“I think there were a ton of things this offseason that I was looking at to get better at, whether it’s having cleaner feet in the pocket, [or] having a little better pocket presence,” Sayin said. “Then knowing when to extend plays and take off. Third down and nothing’s open we gotta go pick it up with our legs and get the first down.”

Sayin struggled with his legs as he put up negative rushing yardage last season. That’s one area if the Buckeyes quarterback could improve upon, their chances of winning the title increases multifold.
