“You’re an Idiot”: Urban Meyer Blames Brendan Sorsby’s Betting Issues on One Entity

Former Ohio State national championship-winning head coach Urban Meyer called out the politicians who legalized gambling for young people after Brendan Sorsby’s scandal came out.

The NCAA is investigating Sorsby after he allegedly placed thousands of sports bets through online gambling apps over several years. The investigation is looking into bets involving Indiana, where Sorsby played his first two seasons (2022-23). Even though he was redshirting in 2022 and reportedly placed bets on Indiana to win, it’s a severe NCAA violation.

In the wake of this scandal, Meyer feels sympathetic toward Sorsby even though he might have done the wrong thing here and damaged his football career at Texas Tech. However, Meyer blamed the lawmakers for legalizing gambling.

“You idiots make that stuff legal? Money,” Meyer said. “Do you get in trouble for saying you idiots? I don’t care. You’re an idiot if you made gambling legal for young people. I’d love to meet the politicians and I’m at the point in my life where I don’t give a shit. I can say what I want. What are you thinking? Money.

“You dumba**, don’t put that, what are you doing? Big money. I know people in the FBI and they say the young people, it’s 10,000% or some number that is hard to comprehend of young people under 21, under 18 years old that are addicted to gambling now. And whoever made these decisions to legalize gambling for young people, shame on you.”

Earlier in November, the NCAA discontinued the rule that allowed athletes to bet on select sports.

Brendan Sorsby Enters Rehabilitation Program to Get Rid of Gambling Addiction

Brendan Sorsby has taken a leave of absence from the Texas Tech football program as he has reportedly entered a residential rehabilitation program for gambling addiction.

Red Raiders head coach Joey McGuire supported this decision of Sorsby, aimed at health and recovery. The school has also come forward to help him through this treatment phase.

“We love Brendan and support his decision to seek professional help,” McGuire said. “Taking this step requires courage, and our primary focus is on him as a person. Our program is behind Brendan as he prioritizes his health.”

After two productive seasons with Cincinnati, where he threw for more than 5,600 yards and 45 touchdowns, he transferred to Texas Tech.
