Why Is Stefon Diggs on Trial? Case Details and Allegations Explained

It has not been a good last few months for free agent Stefon Diggs. First, he lost the Super Bowl, and then he was cut from the New England Patriots. His rapper girlfriend, Cardi B., then broke up with him, and now he is standing on trial. So, why was he on trial?

Considered one of the best wide receivers today, Stefon Diggs is currently facing a felony strangulation charge and a misdemeanor assault and battery charge. He pleaded not guilty to both charges, with the first day of the trial happening on Tuesday.

The first day saw his accuser, Mila Adams, take the stand and talk about the December 2025 incident that led to the trial. It all started thanks to an argument between the two, with Diggs allegedly leaving her home for a week to go on a trip to Miami.

Before her testimony, both sides presented their opening arguments, with prosecutors telling jurors that Stefon Diggs slapped and strangled Adams, while his attorneys countered it by denying those allegations, saying that those accusations never happened.

Adams gave a very graphic testimony, stating that she managed to wet herself as Diggs beat her up, with the argument that a victim urinating during the assault would be a sign that she was not lying,

When it was time for Diggs’ attorneys to do the cross-examination, it became combative, as the defense painted her as an advocate against Stefon Diggs. The first day of the trial ended with that, as the defense tried to poke holes at the accuser’s testimony.

During her testimony, Adams stated that Stefon Diggs went into her bedroom and slapped her with an open hand before moving in to choke her. She noted that she tried to block him and called what he did as an “assault.” However, the defense argued that she was also leaving out some details.

The defense attorneys made her admit that there was really no video or recording of any sort of the assault, with the lawyers then presenting a video of her being in New York during the very day of the alleged attack. However, she countered by showing some of the redness and marks left by the attack.
