The Philadelphia Eagles, like the other 31 NFL teams, are entering extension season. Players nearing the end of their deals know they will be called upon to work many more hours, and this will be their team’s only opportunity for quite some time to deliver on promises to fans. As such, with the rubber getting ready to meet the road, players are set to ask for more. One player in line for an extension is defensive tackle Jalen Carter.
Despite time running short on his current deal, Philadelphia hasn’t jumped at the chance to give Carter a breakout extension, according to a report from Albert Breer via a Thursday Underdog NFL X post.
“Eagles have been hesitant to pay DT Jalen Carter, per Albert Breer,” the post read.
The report set off Eagles fans, leaving many to ask why the Eagles didn’t jump into the Myles Garrett sweepstakes.
According to Spotrac, Carter is in the last year of his conventional $21,806,014 four-year rookie deal. The Eagles exercised the defensive tackle’s fifth-year option, and the pass rusher is under contract through 2027.
However, the long history of players in Carter’s situation suggests an extension is inevitable to keep the defensive tackle happy.
Eagles Can Turn Attention Towards Maxx Crosby
While Maxx Crosby announced his commitment to the Raiders after a failed move to the Baltimore Ravens, there is still a ‘non-zero chance’ of the Raiders star getting a move away from Las Vegas, per SI’s Hondo Carpenter.
According to the source, Myles Garrett’s blockbuster move to the NFC can, in turn, push Eagles General Manager Howie Roseman into green-lighting a campaign to bring Crosby to the East Coast.
The Eagles have relied on their defense in recent seasons, including their Super Bowl run, under Vic Fangio. And a defensive stalwart like Crosby would certainly put the team in a better position against Matthew Stafford’s Rams and the defending champs, the Seattle Seahawks.
